Top 10 Metal Albums of 2010

Just a list and a brief explanation of my favorite metal albums this year. 10-1

10. Dawnbringer - "Nucleus"

A band with no particualar style other than just plain METAL. So I will say this album is a solid 10 on this list. The style is a throwback to Black Sabbath and bands of that sound.

9. Iron Maiden - "The Final Frontier"

A very good album. If you combined Somewhere In Time with Brave New World together you would get The Final Frontier. Its just another fantastic album from Maiden!

8. Ihsahn - "After"

Great album from Ihsahn (frontman of Emperor). Its a progressive metal masterpiece. Its hard to put this at 8 but there were alot of amazing albums this year and this is just one!

7. Son of Aurelius - "The Farthest Reaches"

Superb technical death metal. One of the best of this year in my opinion. Tracks like Facing the Gorgon just make the album.

6. Shining - "Blackjazz"

I have a feeling that this album started a new sub genre of black metal. Its like Immortal meets King Crimson meets John Coltrane. Its an amazing album and its highly original!

5. High on Fire - "Snakes for the Divine"

Whoa! This is a great stoner metal album! They have thrown in some thrash elements in terms of speed and it just makes this album sooooo good! I really like the title tracks overall "epicness".

4. Enslaved - "Axioma Ethica Odini"

This is the best black metal album of the year hands down. They have pushed black metal to places its never gone before. These guys have done to black metal what Opeth did to death metal!!

3. Triptykon - "Eparistera Daimones"

I have yet to properly pronounce the album title (same with the Enslaved album). But thats besides the point, the point is the music and wow is that there! The songs are really good. Super heavy riffs, meaty drums and the vocals are some of Tom G. Warriors best! This is a must have if you are a fan of Celtic Frost.

2. Intronaut - "Valley of Smoke"

I saw these guys a few months back with Cynic and before that date I had never really listened to them. But after that I was hooked. This is a perfect progressive sludge metal band. The riffs are really thick and the drum fills are incredible. If you like Isis, The Ocean or Mastodon be sure to pick this one up!

1. Fear Factory - "Mechanize"

Incredible return of Fear Factory. Fear Factory hasnt made a good album in almost a decade (since Digimortal and that was just ok). Not only is this a great return but it is also, in my opinion their best album ever. The songs are put together well, the vocals are soaring and the drum/guitar duality is the best since Demanufacture. So of course this is my favorite album of 2010!

Top Metal/Rock Albums of the Past 10 Years

I listen to a wide variety of music. Rock, Jazz, Classical, Metal, Electronic, and sub genres in between but my favorite would have to be Metal! I have called this list Metal and Rock because some Rock music is debateable to be Metal so to satisfy everyone I called it Metal and Rock! So I have 25 albums from 2000 to 2009 and I will be going 25 down to 1 (25-16 first). I hope you enjoy and let me know what you think in the commentz!


25. Slayer "World Painted Blood"

     I don't know why but I come to this album almost as much as Reign in Blood or Seasons in the Abyss! This is the best thrash album of the decade in my opinion but I'm not a huge thrash guy.

24. Dream Theater "Train of Thought"

One of my favorite Dream Theater albums. The songs are really heavy! Another great Dream Theater album!
23. Necrophagist "Epitaph"

Wow can Muhammed play the guitar. Its not just random fast playing, uncomprehendable tech death like some other bands of this style. He plays all kinds of sweeps and solos and they even draw influence from some classical music!

22. The Faceless "Planetary Duality"

YES! This was at a time my most played album. I have'nt given this a listen in a little while but from what I remember this was a GREAT album! I really liked the dual title tracks and The Ancient Covenent

21. Opeth "Deliverance"

The heaviest Opeth album! Many great tracks. If you like Opeth for their heavy stuff or your new check this out first!

20. Ensiferum "Iron"

Great Melodic Folk Metal! Viking inspired lyrics. Easily my favorite Ensiferum album! Cover art is an epic battle with a snowy mountain behind it. That says it all.

19. Intronaut "Prehistoricisms"

Say these guys open for Cyinc a few months ago and they impressed me a lot! I quickly got this cd and I have loved it so much!

18. Isis "Oceanic"

Yeah only 18. I'm sure some you hate me now xD. But this album is FAN-TAS-TIC! You feel like your underwater and its just a great sounding record. I hugely reccomend this album!
17. Mastodon "Remisson"

1/4 Mastodon albums to get on my list (thats right all 4 are in the 16 to 1). This album features no singing vocals. Very fast and Brann's drumming is super dooper guud lolz k?

16. Baroness "Blue Record"

Amazing! One of the best of 2009! Great musicianship. Great artwork. Guitars sound raw. Must have.
